ANICO Assisting Ike Victims with TWIA Policies

The Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) recently learned that a limited number of consumers with losses from Hurricane Ike discovered that their Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA) policies were not valid.

These consumers may be able to get help from the
American National Insurance Company. (ANICO) The company has offered to cover hurricane losses for those who may have been defrauded by one of its former agents.

While ANICO is not liable for these losses, company officials say they are taking action to assist about 75 households whose premium was accepted by a former agent, but never forwarded to TWIA.

In order to access this assistance, consumers will have to first complete a Disclosure of Information Consent and Release Form. This will allow information about the consumer’s previous TWIA policy to be forwarded to ANICO. The release form, available online at: http://www.tdi.state.tx.us/consumer/storms/cpmhurrike.html#fraud, should be completed, signed and sent to TDI’s Fraud Unit at this address:

Fax to 512-490-1001
