Maryland Man Scores Hole-In-One, Awaits Money

A Maryland man is crying more than fore.

Herbert Hawks of Glen Burnie is still waiting on a prize he says he won seven months ago after taking a shot at a golf simulator. Hawks says he was attending a golf expo at the Maryland State Fairgrounds and won the prize. The prize was supposed to be $25,000 for getting a hole-in-one. Hawks claims all he received was a piece of paper that acknowledged he was owed the money.

The event's sponsor said he wasn't aware until last week that Hawks had not received his money. The company that brought the simulator to the fairgrounds claims it is having trouble getting the insurer who backed the event to pay up.

HoleInOne.com and Golf Marketing Worldwide reportedly said the money would not be paid until all the requirements were achieved.

In an interesting tidbit, several states have issued cease and desist orders (www.insurance.wa.gov/oicfiles/orders/2004orders/D04-26.pdf) against the company for similar events, saying the company was not licensed to sell insurance in those states.
