Lampkin was charged with insurance fraud and attempted grand larceny for sending the altered records to the New York State Insurance Fund. The altered documents falsely indicated he was hospitalized at Niagara Falls Medical Center from July 10, 2007, through Aug. 1, 2007, when he was actually only hospitalized for seven days. He was never paid the benefits.
Lampkin was released in his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 26. If he is found guilty, he could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
