Davin Mosher got off lightly in most people's minds.
Convicted of starting a wildfire that cost California more than $37 million to battle, Mosher was sentenced to pay a $500 fine.
According to authorities, Mosher, 29, was apparently shooting a gun at a makeshift target, when the sparks from the gunfire caused dry grass to catch fire.
Mosher, who was also sentenced Thursday to three years of probation, must also destroy his two rifles.
The Telegraph Fire began in late August and burned more than 34,000 acres near Yosemite National Park. The blaze eventually cost the state more than $37 million to battle and resulted in millions of dollars in property damage.
Mosher, who called authorities immediately after the fire started, may face additional penalties in the future as the fire caused more than $30 million worth of damage.

Whew, what a low fine. That's a bit absurd. I wonder how the people who lost feel about that.
