* North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin announced Carol Marklew Overby, 52, of Leasburg, pled guilty to one count of felony embezzlement. She was sentenced to 6 to 8 months in jail, suspended and placed on 60 months supervised probation. She must pay $20,712.62 in restitution to N.C. Farm Bureau Insurance. Overby may no longer act in the capacity of an insurance agent.
According to the investigation, Overby used a credit card and checks belonging to her former employer for personal purchases. According to the warrant, Overby embezzled more than $20,700 from Caswell County Farm Bureau Insurance.
