New York City Officials Crack Down on Fire Safety

Officials in New York City are just saying no to building and business owners who have not updated their fire safety codes.

Over the last week, more than 100 owners of properties were arrested for fire code violations which include faulty sprinklers, no fire extinguishers and blocked exits. The target of the city's enforcement is scofflaws who have not responded to criminal summonses for the violations.

Since last July, 221 people have been arrested and fines of more than $50,000 have been issued.
