North Carolina Woman Arrested for Medical Fraud

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long announced the arrest of Vonna Johnson, 44, of Morganton.

An investigator with the Department of Insurance arrested her Friday and charged her with insurance fraud. She was processed at the Hickory Police Department and received a $2,000 secured bond from the Catawba County Magistrate.

The Hickory Police Department began the initial investigation into Johnson after allegations surfaced that she had been altering medical bills and filing fraudulent insurance claims on her personal Colonial Life and Accident policy. From 2005 to 2007, she allegedly collected payments for injuries and accidents that never occurred.

The total amount of payments collected has yet to be determined and additional charges may be pending.
