Firefighters in Northern California continue to battle several blazes that have resulted in destroyed homes and evacuations.
Residents in Bonny Doon, approximately 10 miles northwest of Santa Cruz, evacuated Thursday evening to a Red Cross shelter as the blaze intensified. Authorities say the fire is only about 25 percent contained.
In Paradise, a town of 23,000 approximately 90 miles north of Sacramento, residents also evacuated as another fire continued to burn. That fire has consumed 40 homes to date.
In some good news, a fire that leveled homes in Palermo has been contained. The fire destroyed 49 buildings, including 21 homes.
Fire officials blame winds, heat and low humidity for the blazes.
