BestWeek Looks at Fires, Business and More

The Feb. 17 edition of A.M. Best Co.’s BestWeek Asia/Pacific, a multimedia online digital newsletter for insurance professionals, examines the financial impact of Australia’s brushfire disaster on the country’s nonlife insurers. Catastrophe modelers and insurers weigh in on why this event may be the worst natural disaster in Australia’s history in insurance terms.

The edition is available at http://www.bestweek.com/bwap021709.html or by visiting www.bestweek.com.

Also, Ping An Insurance Co. talks to BestWeek Asia/Pacific about the defeat of Fortis’ plan to sell off parts of its business and what it means for the Chinese insurer as Fortis’ largest shareholder.

The edition also includes two audio interviews with Stuart Alexander of Deloitte. In one, Alexander talks with BestWeek Asia/Pacific News Bureau Manager Iris Lai about the effects of competition and investments on the outlook for Australia’s nonlife insurance sector. The second interview focuses on the sector’s potential losses from the brushfire catastrophe.
