Do's, Dont's for Kentucky Residents After Storm

As Kentuckians continue to recover from last week's devastating ice and snow storm, many homeowners have questions about assistance available to them.

The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management and the Federal Emergency Management Agency want to reiterate these tips for homeowners who may have suffered damage as a result of the storm:

  • Contact your insurance company about repairs.

  • Secure your property from further damage.

  • If possible, take photographs of the damage.

  • Keep all receipts for emergency repairs and out-of-pocket expenses related to the storm.

Today's disaster declaration makes help available to state and local governments to pay for emergency measures and debris removal. It does not include FEMA's Individual Assistance program.

If individuals have an immediate emergency need such as food, water, or shelter, they should contact their local emergency management office.

Questions about storm debris on private property should be directed to local solid waste office for instructions on how and where to dispose of the debris. Open burning of storm debris is not permitted in some areas of the state.
