A train derailment Tuesday afternoon in downtown Oakland involving a pair of Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) trains left 13 people with minor injuries.
According to authorities, the two trains, which were carrying approximately 300 passengers total, were traveling slowly when they collided because BART trains normally travel at minimal speeds in that area. The collison took place just outside the busy 12th Street station.
One of the trains was traveling from the West Oakland station to Pittsburg/Bay Point and one was coming from the Lake Merritt station to Richmond when they collided side-to-side.
