W. Virginia Student Files Lawsuit After Losing Eye

A West Virginia student is suing the Putnam County Board of Education after losing an eye while at golf practice.

Buffalo High School student Eric Nathan Crist, 17, filed the lawsuit late last week. Crist was injured in August of last year while at an organized practice at a golf facility in Frazier's Bottom.

Crist was reportedly struck in the eye by a golf ball hit by a teammate. The ball hit Crist in the orbit of his left eye, and according to the lawsuit, he lost use of the eye as a direct result of the injury.

According to the lawsuit, the team's coaches did not properly instruct, coach and supervise both Crist and other members of the team in the rules of golf and fundamental safety instructions related to taking part in the game.

The suit asks the county school system to pay for the Crist's medical expenses, totaling nearly $49,000, and for his physical and mental pain and suffering from the embarrassment of disfigurement.

The suit also seeks $200,000 for all future medical expenses as a result of his injury, and nearly $468,000 for the reduction of his lifetime capacity to be employed.

That's a tough injury to deal with. I feel badly for this kid. Still, everyone knows the dangers of playing any sport and professing otherwise is just not being forthright.
