Say Hello to Hurricane Ike

As the hurricane season picks up, the storms are coming one after another over the last week.

Forecasters report Ike is now the fifth hurricane in the Atlantic this season. Ike has sustained winds near 80 mph and is about 670 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands, tracking west-northwest near 18 mph.

Ike follows Tropical Storm Hanna, which is currently hitting Haiti, where it has left 26 people dead. Forecasters warn it could swing back into a hurricane before hitting the southern coast of the U.S. this weekend.

Meantime, forecasters report Josephine, the tropical storm trailing Ike, is weakening.

These storms come on the heels of Gustav, which left flooding in several Gulf Coast states over the weekend. Gustav is estimated to have resulted in up to $12 billion in damages.

Gustav killed at least 94 people as it wreaked havoc throughout the Caribbean.
