Sacramento Woman Nabbed for Stealing Premiums

California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner announced the sentencing of Doris Sutton, 43, of Sacramento, for stealing insurance premiums from 13 victims. She was sentenced to serve 180 days in county jail, five years probation and ordered to pay $41,923 in restitution on Jan. 5.

A CDI investigation revealed that between April 2007 and April 2008, Sutton collected insurance premium payments from 13 clients, and failed to remit the premiums to an insurance carrier.

After reportedly pocketing the funds, Sutton issued bogus certificates of liability and automobile insurance coverage.

Additionally, she reportedly transacted insurance business, collected premiums and issued certificates without a valid insurance license.
