Progressive Offers Tips for Boating Safety

Preparing for emergencies is a part of everyday life. Schoolchildren practice tornado drills. Hotels post evacuation routes. Manufacturing companies perform routine safety checks. So why is it that many boaters in coastal areas don’t take the time to plan for tropical storms or hurricanes?

For boaters who answer, “it’s too complicated,” or, “I don’t know where to begin,” there are no more excuses. Thanks to “Keeping Your Boat Storm Ready,” a new online video that covers what to do before, during and after a storm, preparing for storm season is easier than ever. Accompanied by downloadable checklists, the video can be viewed at www.boat.progressive.com.

“Storms that bring high waves, heavy rain, and winds exceeding 100 mph can do significant damage—to people and to boats,” said Dominic Mediate, Progressive’s boat product manager. “That’s why it’s so important to prepare for severe weather before a storm hits.”

The entire video—which was produced by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Florida Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Sea Grant, the U.S. Coast Guard and Progressive—is now available online.
