Pet Food Makers Agree to $24 Million Deal

Pet owners received some comforting news on Friday as a settlement was reached involving the deaths of dogs and cats last year who ate contaminated pet food.

Companies named in the suit have agreed to pay $24 million to pet owners in the U.S. and Canada. The settlement came to light in papers filed on Thursday in the U.S. District Court in Camden.

The announced deal involves people who recorded expsenses related to the illness or death of a pet linked to the food. Those expenses could include vet bills and/or costs for burial or cremation.

The recall last year of the contaminated food was the biggest such pet food recall in U.S. history.

Authorities discovered that the food included wheat gluten from China, that was contaminated with a chemical called melamine, which is used in the production of plastics.

Aw, this is a sad story. We have a dog we love and would be heart broken to lose him before his time and especially under such ridiculous circumstances.
