California Man Pleads Guilty in Auto Fraud Case

Ventura County District Attorney Gregory Totten announced that David Glen Snader (DOB 12/18/84), of Camarillo , pled guilty to one count of felony auto insurance fraud.

Snader was sentenced to120 days in the Ventura County Jail and placed on formal probation for three years. As part of the terms and conditions of his probation, Snader will be required to pay $1,655.10 in restitution to Esurance Insurance Company.

According to detectives from the Ventura County Auto Theft Task Force, on Sept. 28, 2007, Snader reported to the Oxnard Police Department that his 2000 Lincoln Sedan was stolen after he parked it across the street from a friend's residence. Two days later, Snader filed a claim for his 'stolen vehicle' with his insurance company, Esurance.

One week earlier however, a Ventura County Sheriff's deputy located the vehicle abandoned in a Camarillo parking lot. The abandoned car was then towed to a nearby impound lot. The car was still in the impound lot when Snader claimed he last drove it.

Additional investigation revealed that Snader had reportedly conspired with an accomplice to get rid of his vehicle so that Snader could report his car as stolen and collect insurance money from Esurance Insurance Company.

Some thieves are just that smart. At least drive the car to the desert or some deserted place, ransack it and make it look authentic. Another reason why insurance rates climb -fraud.
