N.Y. Man Pulled Over for Workers' Comp Fraud

A 73-year-old Onondaga County, New York man was arrested last week for improperly taking $27,089 in workers’ compensation benefits while employed as a bus driver in Rome, the New York State Insurance Department reported.

Clarence W. Burk, of Blossvale, was charged with insurance fraud and offering a false instrument for filing. If convicted, he could be sentenced to seven years in prison.

Investigator Anthony Sobon, of the Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau, said Burk falsely claimed he had been unable to work since suffering a work-related injury in 2005. Burk, who surrendered to New York State Police, is scheduled to appear for a hearing in Salina Town Court on Aug. 28.
