Coccaro, owner of North State Custom Auto in West Chester County, New York, triumphed when a New York Supreme Court judge tossed out Progressive’s case this month.
The story has important implications for insurers, bodyshops and consumers who trust their insurer to choose a bodyshop that will do safe, high-quality repairs—something that doesn’t always happen, Coccaro says.
The victory cost Coccaro $400,000 in legal fees over three years. His suit against Progressive is pending.
