Firefighters in Northern California are battling a pair of blazes that are threatening homes in rural areas near Harrison Gulch and Platina.
The fires have closed a section of Highway 36 west of Redding, approximately 160 miles north of Sacramento.
The one fire, burning on more than 2,000 acres, is reportedly threatening more than two dozen homes and two businesses, although an evacuation order issued Sunday was lifted.
Another fire has scorched some 450 acres at the north end of Lake Shasta. Evacuations are in place for 40 rural homes and two businesses.
Both fires are under investigation.
