Pair of Colorado Fires Appear to be Arson

Authorities in Summit County, Colorado are investigating a pair of fires at a local resort early Sunday that they believe are arson.

According to investigators, the fires took place at Keystone Lodge and Spa at the Keystone Resort during an emergency services conference.

Many of the guests evacuated in the early morning hours were members of emergency services crews, as there was a conference taking place at the resort.

Investigators reported that as firefighters made their way through the smoke, they discovered a small blaze which appeared to have been deliberately set. It was also reported that the smoke alarm and the sprinkler head in the storage room also seemed to be intentionally tampered with.

As firefighters secured the scene and began gathering evidence, a fire chief saw smoke rising from the nearby Keystone Lodge, on the north side of Highway 6.

A crew was immediately dispatched to investigate and discovered an active fire in a storage room in the Keystone Lodge, which did not have a smoke detector or a sprinkler system.

Crews were able extinguish both blazes before the buildings sustained any significant damage.

The fire department has reportedly responded to half a dozen arson fires in approximately six weeks.
