RIMS Notes New Online Biz Training Library

The Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) has made available a new library of online courses to help enhance risk practitioner business management and leadership skills.

The 50-course collection was developed by Winchester Center for Management Development, a subsidiary of MindEdge Inc., an information and learning company.

“A successful career as a risk management professional requires continuous learning in many disciplines to enhance both technical and soft skills,” says Janet Barnes, member of RIMS board of directors and risk manager for Snohomish County Public Utility District No.1. “MindEdge’s online programs offer professionals an easy, convenient and affordable way to further develop the critical skills they need to become successful managers and leaders within their organizations.”

The Winchester Center for Management Development provides a collection of courses in communications, finance, human resources, innovation and creative thinking, leadership, management, marketing, project management and strategy. Sessions include interactive exercises, case studies, assessments and focused readings. Completion of select courses earns participants a half continuing education unit for those who require annual or bi-annual continuing education hours and a program certification. Risk practitioners can enroll in the courses at any time in the convenience of their home or office. Fees for many of the courses range between $79 to $95 and can be completed in three to six hours.

“These self-paced online management courses are ideally suited for risk management professionals who appreciate the convenience and ease of web-based training,” says Jefferson Flanders, president and CEO of MindEdge Inc. “They offer an efficient, affordable and effective way for risk managers to strengthen their basic business, management and leadership skills.”

In addition to these online courses, in 2008 RIMS organized a record-breaking 57 courses and workshops that are estimated to attract more than 700 risk professionals. This fall, more than half of RIMS professional development workshops will offer credit towards the RIMS Fellow® designation, a certification program for risk professionals. To date, there are more than 95 RIMS Fellow® designees and 209 candidates enrolled in the program.
