Fire officials say the fire burning for a month in the area of Big Sur is now 70 percent contained.
Firefighters have several factors helping them, including setting backfires and a strong marine layer. The goal of firefighters is to have the fire contained by month's end.
The blaze has scorched more than two dozen homes and nearly three dozen buildings. Estimates are that fighting the fire has cost nearly $60 million.
