Texas Alcohol Related Death Lawsuit Settled

A lawsuit involving the death of a University of Texas freshman's alcohol related death has concluded.

Jack Phoumarrath died in late 2005 at a frat house near the UT campus after consuming too much alcohol. According to his family, his alcohol related death was in part due to a fraternity hazing. A civil case followed and has been in the courts since.

The family, which sued the Lambda Phi Epsilon fraternity's national and UT chapters, including dozens of current and former frat members, reportedly has reached a settlement in the wrongful death suit. No monetary terms were announced.

Three fraternity members were indicted following Phoumarrath's death. A judge since ordered them to two years probation, along with community service. The trio also were ordered to apologize to the family of the deceased man and be part of a video talking about the dangers of hazing.
