NAIC to Host Health Care Meeting in San Francisco

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) will hold a public hearing Friday, May 30, that will focus on the continuing growth of health care costs in the United States. The hearing, held in conjunction with the NAIC’s Summer National Meeting in San Francisco, will be hosted by the Health Innovations (B) Working Group.

“State insurance regulators are acutely aware that the increasing cost of health care is contributing to the difficulty many Americans face when trying to find affordable health insurance coverage,” said Illinois Insurance Director Michael McRaith, who chairs the Working Group. “We are hopeful that this hearing will help us devise effective solutions to this growing problem.”

Working Group members will hear testimony from representatives of stakeholder groups, as well as others who are working to make health care more efficient and affordable. The witness list includes physicians, hospitals, health insurance companies, self-insured health care purchasers, organized labor and state Medicaid programs.

“This hearing will bring together diverse viewpoints from some of the best minds in health care,” McRaith added. “We anticipate this hearing will provide a springboard for lively discussions and, ultimately, comprehensive solutions to improve access to and the affordability of health care.”
