N.Y. Residents File False Burglary Report

Two Greene County, New York residents face up to a year in jail after admitting they filed a false burglary report in an unsuccessful attempt to cash in on an insurance claim.

Geraldine Porter, 57, and Dominick Donato, 48, both of Catskill, were arrested May 2 for falsely reporting an incident. Donato was also charged with offering a false instrument for filing.

According to the New York State Insurance Department’s Frauds Bureau office in Albany, the two reported that jewelry had been stolen from their home and then filed an insurance claim. They were charged after Porter reportedly withdrew the claim before it was paid and then confessed to filing the false burglary report.

Porter and Donato were arrested by the Village of Catskill Police Department and are being held in Greene County jail pending a hearing.
