California Woman Pleads No Contest to WC Fraud

Llorente SIU (www.llorentesiu.com), a Contract SIU service provider, announced today that Tania Shavonne Lang of Oakland, California plead no contest to one count of misdemeanor insurance fraud on Oct. 30, 2008.

Lang was charged with 12 felony counts by the Alameda County District Attorneys office in November, 2007, arising from a workers' compensation claim filed in December, 2006. As a result of the plea bargain, Lang was sentenced to 3 years probation, and ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $12,503.75. She also agreed to dismiss her pending workers' comp claim, with prejudice.

Lang filed a workers' comp claim for injuries sustained in a slip-and-fall accident. She alleged no prior injuries to the parts of her body injured in the fall, and denied filing any prior insurance claims.

Evidence showed, however, that she received a prior WCAB award for injuries to the same parts of her body in January, 2002.
