North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long announced the arrest of Heather Dawn Cagle, 34, of Newport. Cagle was arrested by a Department of Insurance investigator and charged with once count of embezzlement by an insurance agent. She was processed at the Morehead City Police Department, which assisted with the case.
Cagle, who worked as an agent for Chalk & Gibbs insurance agency in Morehead City, allegedly embezzled nearly $16,000 in insurance premiums paid by clients. These clients' insurance premiums were allegedly left unpaid, and they were at risk of losing their coverage.
Cagle has surrendered her agent's license to Department of Insurance officials.
