Pennsylvanians to Receive Restitution from Contractors

The Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection announced a series of legal agreements resolving consumer complaints against five remodeling and home repair contractors operating in Allegheny, Westmoreland and Lackawanna counties.

Attorney General Tom Corbett said the Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) agreements between the contractors and the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection will result, over time, in $93,298 in restitution to consumers for work that was not performed, jobs that were left incomplete, sub-standard work and other violations of the Consumer Protection Law. Additionally, three of the contractors are now permanently barred from owning or operating a home remodeling or repair business in Pennsylvania.

Corbett noted that over the past year, the Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection received nearly 2,100 complaints about home improvement projects, ranging from general repairs and remodeling to roofing, paving, plumbing and other specialized tasks.
