Zurich Offering Aid in Spill Cleanups

Zurich has launched a new online service that will assist North American customers with the cleanup of spills of hazardous materials, fuel or other regulated materials.

Offered free-of-charge to Zurich Environmental customers, Zurichs Spill Reporting Online System will assist in dispatching cleanup contractors, reducing costs associated with environmental releases, expediting regulatory reporting and mitigating potential liability.

President of Spill Center and environmental attorney Tom Moses said, Spill Center maintains a database of more than 3,000 contractors throughout North America to assist customers in identifying appropriate local resources for particular kinds of spills. Zurich and Spill Center also monitor the scope of work and cleanup, and then review the contractors invoice for accuracy.

In addition, Spill Center assists in:

  • Coordinating local, state and federal release reporting
  • Monitoring nearly 30,000 federal, state and local jurisdictions across the U.S. that require incident reports after a spill
  • Tracking changes in regulations and maintaining current environmental reporting regulations and contact information, which may help Zurich customers avoid fees and penalties if they miss reporting deadlines

Users of the system receive electronic copies of paperwork generated by the spill incident, including an open release report, contractor retention documentation, regulatory paperwork, invoices and a closing report.
