Texas City Obtains Top PPC Rating

Fire Protection in the city of Coppell, Texas has received the highest Public Protection Classification (PPC) rating awarded by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). Coppell joins Plano, Frisco, Wylie, Houston, Tomball, El Paso, Stafford and Mesquite as the only communities in Texas with PPC ratings of “1”.

ISO classifies communities from 1 to 10. Communities with superlative systems for water distribution, fire department equipment and firefighting personnel and fire notification facilities receive a Class 1 rating. A PPC rating can affect the cost of property insurance for homes and commercial buildings in the community.

Prior to the announcement, Coppell began the process of improving its PPC rating from a Class 3 rating and has succeeded in achieving the Class 1 rating. City Officials in Coppell recognized the economic benefits of a lower PPC rating and began upgrading the city’s infrastructure and made significant improvements in their fire defenses.

Members of the State Fire Marshal’ Office, who oversee the distribution of PPC ratings in Texas and approved ISO’s recommendation for the Class 1 rating, were on hand in Coppell at the city council meeting to announce the Class 1 rating.
