Oklahoma, Concentra Settle Billing Practice Issues

Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson and Concentra Health Services have signed an agreement that requires the company to pay the state more than $182,000 and institute new training procedures to settle state concerns about the company’s billing practices.

At issue was Concentra’s reported method for billing CompSource Oklahoma for providing medical services for job-related injuries. CompSource, a state agency, provides workers’ compensation insurance coverage to government and private employers in Oklahoma. The state alleged the company billed CompSource more for services than was allowed under the fee schedule.

The agreement requires Concentra to pay $44,189.72 in restitution to CompSource, $88,379.44 in penalties to the Oklahoma Crime Victims’ Compensation Fund and $50,000 in investigative costs to the attorney general’s office.

“The agreement also requires Concentra to provide current and future employees and contractors who are involved in the billing process with coding and compliance training,” Edmondson said. “The company’s employees and contractors will also complete an anonymous, yearly billing and claims compliance integrity questionnaire. Any questionnaire that alleges a coding or billing violation will be submitted to our office for review.”
